mm to Inches Fraction Calculator

Convert mm to inches as tape-measure fractions — 1/8 to 1/64 inch precision — and meters to feet and inches, in both directions. Results in m, cm, mm, decimal feet, decimal inches, and reduced fractions.

Calculation Reference

  • 1 foot = 0.3048 m (exact)
  • 1 inch = 25.4 mm (exact)

Tape measure fractions are rounded to your selected precision, from 1/8 down to 1/64 inch, and always reduced to the simplest form.

This calculator provides engineering guidance only. AWG values describe bare solid conductors, so verify stranded constructions and critical dimensions against the manufacturer datasheet.

How to use the mm to Inches Fraction Calculator

Type on either side, and the other side converts as you type.

1. Type a metric length (mm, cm, or m) — the imperial side updates instantly with a tape-measure fraction. Or enter feet and inches to convert the other way.

2. Use the flip control between the two sides to swap the conversion direction.

3. Read every representation at once: meters, centimeters, millimeters, decimal feet, decimal inches, and a tape-measure fraction with selectable precision from 1/8 to 1/64 inch.

4. Paste lengths directly — “5 ft 6 in”, “6′2″” or “1.5 m” are recognized and filled in automatically.

mm to inches fraction example

A 30 mm dimension on a metric drawing is 30 ÷ 25.4 = 1.1811 inches. On a tape measure at 1/16-inch precision, that reads:

30 mm = 1 3/16 in

Need finer than 1/16? Switch the precision to 1/32 or 1/64 inch. It works for whole lengths too: 2.5 m = 8 ft 2 7/16 in — meters to feet and inches in one step, in either direction.

Exact conversion factors

Both factors are exact by international definition, so no rounding is introduced in the conversion itself: 1 foot = 0.3048 m and 1 inch = 25.4 mm. Cable drawings and connector datasheets routinely mix the two systems, with overall length in inches and strip lengths in millimeters. That is why a both-ways converter with a tape-measure readout saves time on the bench.

Fractions are rounded to your selected precision and reduced to the simplest form (14/32 shows as 7/16). For toleranced dimensions on drawings, use the decimal values and apply the drawing’s own rounding rules.
